(1 Jan 2025) It is interesting how many boxes are being checked for the future Signposts by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Golani.
This Reuters article adds to the checks of this post and this post, hinting not only at the four-fold Sunni confederacy coming together for the Third Signpost with the named nations of Turkey, Syria, Egypt, and Albania, but it even hints at the emerging leader of the Fourth Signpost. Amazing.
A Third Signpost Preview
The news article mentions the following foreigners in Syria being given high offices within the ranks of HTS:
“Turkish citizen Omar Mohammed Jaftashi was made a brigadier-general.”
“Abdul Jashari, an ethnically Albanian fighter also known as Abu Qatada al-Albani, was appointed colonel.”
“Egyptian Alaa Mohammed Abdel-Baqi was also given a military rank.”
This simply shows that as long as fellow Sunni fighters are fighting alongside the Sunni Syrians, they are welcome not only in the ranks, but as commanding officers. This shows a willingness and potential on the part of HTS to work closely with these three nations. I find it interesting that all three of the other nations of the Daniel 7 Leopard were mentioned in one article by name.
A Fourth Signpost Preview
In addition to having officers from those nations, al-Golani appointed Chinese Uyghers to high ranks.
“Chinese Uyghur militant Abdulaziz Dawood Khudaberdi, also known as Zahid and the commander of the separatist Turkistan Islamic Party’s (TIP) forces in Syria, was appointed a brigadier-general, a TIP statement said and the Syrian military source confirmed.”
In addition,
“Two other Uyghur fighters, Mawlan Tarsoun Abdussamad and Abdulsalam Yasin Ahmad, were given the rank of colonel, said the TIP statement published on its website, congratulating them and the Uyghur community on the appointments.”
The article goes on to say TIP has hundreds of fighters in Syria. Al-Golani’s recognition of these Uygher fighters as an integral part of Syria’s defense, cooperating with TIP, also hints at a political strategist that wants to have like-minded fighters across Islam fight together as one, as the future Mahdi/Antichrist will do.
Another Fourth Signpost Preview
The coming Mahdi/Antichrist will reunite the entire Islamic Realm during the Fourth Signpost.
There is yet another fine point made manifest in the news, that I missed in this earlier post about al-Golani and the Antichrist.
On the day HTS conquered Damascus, al-Golani gave his speech from the Umayyad mosque in Damascus. Why is this significant?
Do you remember who the Umayyads were? (They are mentioned in Daniel Revisited on pages 39 and 46.) For 90 years, from AD 661–750, they ruled the entire Islamic Realm as it existed at the time from Morocco to Pakistan. They were the last caliphate to do so. Every Caliphate since has only ruled a part of the Realm. During the Umayyad’s rule, Islam added the conquests of Spain and Central Asia.

Their capital city for all of Islam was Damascus, which was captured earlier from the Eastern Roman (aka, Byzantine) Empire in AD 634.
The Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, was built in AD 711 on the site of the demolished Cathedral of St John the Baptist. (Remember, that’s what the iron leg empire of the image did and does—it broke into pieces and pulverized all the other empires preceding it in the image, per Daniel 2:40, and Syria at the time was part of the empire of bronze, that is, the Hellenistic Realm administered by Rome.)
Upon finishing the new mosque, Caliph Al-Malid I declared that the mosque is a “symbol of the political supremacy and moral prestige of Islam.”
In other words, al-Golani made his speech of conquest from the very mosque that used to rule over all of Islam.
Summary
Many detailed previews and echoes of the future Signposts are being seen and heard, but it is lost on most people. Just as it has been in the Middle East for the last 20 years, many obvious and visible signs are only noise, but it is the under-reported and quiet events that typically have far more significance prophetically.
Al-Golani, through his actions, has been giving us a preview of the identity of the members of the Sunni confederacy.
Regarding the Fourth Signpost, al-Golani is likely not going to be the Antichrist himself but one never knows. At the very least, as given here in this post and in this other recent post, his actions are undeniably a foreshadowing of the coming Antichrist. And I thank our Lord that He is allowing these foreshadows to be seen.

So Mark, I don’t know how much you know of Dr. Jay Smith’s work on revisionist Islam. He points out in his work that Mecca didn’t exist in form as stated in the Quran in the 7th century. This means some Arabic group fabricated this Robin Hood-like myth of Mohammed in the 8th century. I think this group, the Umayyad may indeed be be the ones responsible. Definitely can see how they might be responsible for eventually taking down the Saudi’s regime and Mecca’s influence as well.
