(17 July 2026) It is now 10 pm MST July 17, or, 4 AM GMT, July 18. We have been watching events centered on Iran and its regime, waiting for escalation of what looks to be the Second Signpost.
The Strait of Hormuz is closed again. The Strait was closed solidly for 113 days starting on March 2, allowing the global inventory of oil to drain to near zero.
It has now been 27 more days that the absolute closure ended. We have seen the Strait mostly closed, and even when it was open, traffic was only a small fraction of what it was before the war.
That makes the Strait closed for a total of 140 days.
Hormuzstraitmonitor.com is also counting the days at 140.
Threshold of the Second Signpost
If all the Arab oil infrastructure in the Mideast is destroyed, the Second Signpost will be here. That’s because with 25 percent of the oil production gone, oil prices will go up many times, and so the loss of peace of mind around the world will begin.
And Iran has said over and over that it will do just that if the US invades with troops onto Iranian territory.

Conclusion
So instead of the oil shock occurring later in the summer or in the fall, it could be next week.
The very idea that the US even seems to be considering a ground invasion, to me, is insane. What would it hope to accomplish?
