Is General McKenzie Witnessing the Final Preparations for the Second Signpost?

American Marine General Kenneth McKenzie, commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), has publicly stated what could be interpreted as his witnessing the final preparations for the Second Signpost.

Gen. McKenzie made known what he is seeing in Iran right now, and his observations were reported on the Foreignpolicy.com website, CNN and the NY Times.

For some background, CENTCOM is the US military structure overseeing the Middle East and Central Asia. Former CENTCOM commanders such as Army Gen. Tommy Franks oversaw the removal of Saddam Hussein and the plucking of the lion’s wings in 2003. Army Gen. John Abizaid oversaw the lion being forced to stand and its mind replaced in 2005, keeping a relative peace in Iraq for a time to allow its government to become a parliamentary democracy. Generals David Petraeus and Norman Schwarzkopf are also former commanders.

Having had the job of commanding CENTCOM for only nine months now, Gen. McKenzie may be witnessing the final chess moves by Iran’s regime, posturing itself for the kickoff of the Second Signpost, the great invasion by Iran of the Middle East.

Evidence from Intelligence

Let’s begin with what intelligence may be saying.

CNN reports in a related story, “While not commenting on the current intelligence, Cmdr. Rebecca Rebarich, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told CNN, ‘We continue to closely monitor the activities of the regime in Iran, its military and its proxies, and we are well postured to defend US forces and interests as needed.’” One official told CNN, “There has been consistent intelligence in the last several weeks.”

This “consistent intelligence” shows, according to the story that “in the last several weeks there has been movement of Iranian forces and weapons that the US worries could be put in place for a potential attack.”

There is consistent evidence that the IRGC is getting ready for an attack of some sort.

As a side note, Rebarich’s statement above also reflects the American belief that the US will defeat Iran (which goes against Dan. 8:4).

Gen. McKenzie’s Report

Referring to Gen. McKenzie, this foreignpolicy.com article begins with, “The top U.S. general in the region believes the Iranian threat continues to rise—and Tehran is likely to continue lashing out.”

Gen. McKenzie stated, “My judgment is that it is very possible they will attack again.” The general also believes Iran “has long had hegemonic ambitions.”

This NY Times piece quotes Gen. McKenzie from another interview as saying, “It’s the trajectory and the direction that they’re [the IRGC] on . . . The attack on the oil fields in Saudi was stunning in the depth of its audaciousness.”

Gen. McKenzie recognizes the boldness and military significance of the September 14 attack on the Saudi oil fields. The foreign policy article goes on to say, “McKenzie cautioned that Tehran’s actions are unpredictable” and the general stated, “When a nation behaves that irresponsibly, you have to be very cautious when you evaluate what they might do in the future.”

I doubt the unfolding of the Second Signpost is on the general’s radar, but at least he seems to believe Iran could try anything, and while although falsely, trusting in America’s military capabilities to stop or punish the IRGC.

The foreign policy article also reported, “McKenzie shed new light on the threat, saying he is particularly concerned about the possibility of a strike involving large numbers of drones and missiles—much like the Aramco attack, which used dozens of Iran-manufactured cruise missiles and drones to devastate Saudi oil infrastructure.”

There we have confirmation of my belief stated in this post that Iran was testing its drone and missile capability to carry out a major attack, with such attacks being part of the opening salvoes of the Second Signpost.

The foreignpolicy.com article ends with, “‘Deterrence assumes there is going to be a rational actor on the other end,’ he said. ‘There is a basic recklessness and irresponsibility to their actions that makes you very concerned about what they might do tomorrow or the next day, and that’s very concerning.’”

Gen. McKenzie seems to be concerned, but has he connected the dots to realize America’s deterrence might not really be deterrence?

Conclusion

General McKenzie seems to understand that he is dealing with an unpredictable enemy, and one that may very well attack again, and in the same manner as it did on September 14. Unknown to him though, is that Daniel 8 suggests what would likely be his worst nightmare. His enemy would attack but in far worse fashion, kicking off the Second Signpost.

The general is aware of intelligence showing the movement of the IRGC military assets being put in place for possible attack.

The question for Signpost watchers is, are these movements the final steps prior to the Second Signpost? Is General McKenzie witnessing the prelude to the Second Signpost?

The thought has crossed my mind, what if someone would try to tell him about the coming Second Signpost in God’s Word? Would it make any difference? No, it would not. Daniel 8 will still play out.

One thing is certain, if the Second Signpost is to occur and is only several weeks away, General McKenzie has a front seat to the unfolding of the next event in God’s end-time plan which will unleash terrible times continuing all the way to Christ’s return.

  2. Pretty cool and timely scene about drones in Angel Has Fallen. Would be really hard to defend against something like this. In the scene before they fired them like a rocket and the wings came out. Don’t know if they have stuff like this yet, but sure it will be reality before long.

  3. Hi Mark!

Interesting article. God’s Word regarding Iran and its success would still prevail undoubtedly regardless if the General knew about the Second Signpost. But wouldn’t it be worth a shot to try and see if he could be reached about it? I did a search of him on twitter that yielded nothing. To be utterly blind sided without warning even if he didn’t believe at the time would be tragic. The General is monitoring Iran’s military movements and as he stated they are up to “something”.

Wars generally tend to be instigated in the Spring. Next year is a presidential election cycle. Trump’s foreign policy’s biting sanctions against the Iran regime may be just the reason that Iran attacks and succeeds controlling Mideast oil and dropping the petrodollar for Trump to be defeated next November. It is a possible scenario. We’ll just have to see come springtime and before the next election.

    Blessings!

  4. I daily scan through Iranian websites in English. Yesterday the thought occurred to me, “When Iran’s invasion begins, will these websites report on it?” Today I found an article “Plans for a National Intranet will make Iran more isolated” at https://iranwire.com/en/features/6545 . IranWire is produced by Iranians who are critical of the Khamenei regime. As the article points out, several nations are attempting to establish an international law making it easier for countries to suppress political dissent: “such a law would allow countries like Iran to create virtual walls between ‘international’ and ‘national’ internets.”

on November 16 of 2019, the internet was fully blocked across Iran by the Khamenei regime, and only gradually and selectively restored. “The city of Sarbaz in Sistan and Baluchistan, a province with a sizeable Sunni Muslim population in Shia majority Iran, was the last town to regain access, just yesterday, on December 8. The people of this city were apparently punished longer than others for protesting the arrest of Molavi Fazlorahman Kouhi, a Sunni clergyman and the leader of Friday prayers in Sarbaz.”

  5. Prisms,
I assume it will be the news of nations on the receiving end of the IRGC’s aggression that will report, though briefly.

  6. Mark,

Two nations in the Arabian Peninsula that I expect will be “on the receiving end of the IRGC’s aggression” are Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Each supports websites designed to put on happy faces for English-speaking readers. Saudi Arabia has https://www.arabnews.com/. Kuwait has http://www.arabtimesonline.com/news/. But I believe that the Arabian Peninsula is the “Desert by the Sea” (verse 1) that Isaiah 21 prophesies concerning. “Elam, attack! Media, lay siege!” (verse 2). “I am staggered by what I hear, I am bewildered by what I see” (verse 3). Why gruesome events must happen is hard to explain. A good attempt at it is https://joelstrumpet.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Mystery_of_Catastrophe-INTERIOR.pdf by Joel Richardson and Nathan Graves.

  7. If War is started next year to rally support for trump Administration and for him to get re-elected it will not go well with that the election cycle,And because the ram wins what will be the president that comes next?it will be a nightmare..

  8. Linda,
This part of the war during the Second Signpost is likely the Psalm 83 war.

  9. IMO, the Ps. 83 war is the same as when the AC confirms the covenant (Dan 9:27) with many for the last 7 years. Just more info from a differnt perspective.

5-For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant.

    Also we read,

15-So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm.

This sure sounds like the judgments during the day of the Lord to me.

The last verse sums up the expected outcome.

18-That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.

This only happens after Jesus comes back to take possession of the earth, which is paralleled in Ezekiel 39:

“And I will send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the LORD.

“My holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.

“Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord GOD. “That is the day of which I have spoken.

A good article is found here:

  10. Steve,
Though Joel brings up many good points, overall I disagree with his position. I’ve written about the Psalm 83 war here and here. I believe it will take place during the Second Signpost, and that really is the only time it could (the key here being the peoples all saying the memory must be wiped, just like now). Also, the miraculous judgment from God can take place anytime, not jut at the end.

  11. After the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), Iran gradually began producing its own weaponry, recently becoming so advanced at it that even Russia has purchased Iran-made drones.

In lists of countries by population and by land area, Iran ranks 18th in both. Maximum economic pressure against Iran has backfired. In finding markets for more than just oil, Iran has only broadened its economic base.

Although the New York Times has published false stories, it may be true that Iran has used chaos in Iraq to move Iranian missiles into that country, while claiming that the United States and Israel are behind the chaos!

I am wondering if the three directions for Iran’s invasion, west, north, and south (Daniel 8:4), might happen in that order. The lands of Moab, Ammon, and Edom, prophesied of in Isaiah 15-16, Jeremiah 48-49:22, and Ezekiel 25:1-14, are in Jordan to the west. Those prophecies may not have been completely fulfilled in ancient times.

Why waste the element of surprise by first going south when that would be a pushover? Better to save the element of surprise for the more formidable Israel to the west and Turkey to the north. Israel, though not to be conquered, may suffer some humiliation. I’m looking at Isaiah 17 and wondering if we might see some fulfillment of that chapter during the second signpost.

  12. Prisms,
In the past I could think of only one reason to go south first: the oil. But now with the drones all the oil can be taken out anywhere so it doesn’t matter in which direction the boots on the ground go first. Could be west.

  13. Thanks for the links, but when has been the last time anyone has seen the “miraculous judgment from God?”

Just ain’t happened in modern history that I can recall. That’s what makes the 70th week so special. If judgments from God were commonplace, people would just blow them off. That’s the point Jesus was making in Mat.24:

“You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.

Then you see a transition in the next set of verses.

“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”

Luke 21 adds to the list.

and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

When birth pains begin, they signal it is close to the time of delivery. Everyone knows this, this is a universal understanding that needs no explanation. That is why we only read of the miraculous beginning within the confines of the 70th week- and all that goes along with it, ending with the day of the Lord beginning in Rev 6, when everyone is running for cover knowing without a doubt that impending judgment is coming from God and Jesus:

12I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

That that everyone surrounding Israel is wanting to wipe them out and not just talking about it- and actually succeeding, is spoken of by Jesus in Mat 24- the great tribulation. That the AC does the same kind of deceit and alliance is described in Dan 11:23:

“After an alliance is made with him he will practice deception, and he will go up and gain power with a small force of people.

I just don’t see how you cannot connect this alliance with the alliance or covenant with Ps 83:5, and with 9:27? Seems pretty clear to me. The “one mind”, brings up the 10 kings giving their alligance to beast/AC.

That Jesus points us back to Daniel 9 & 11, and Daniel 9& 11 speaks of the covenat and the AD and all that surrounds this period; and Jesus tells us “the reader” to understand, this is very significant- if not the most important thing to understand about where we are at in the 70th week.

But we all have our viewponts on these things and time will tell for sure. 🙂

  14. According to IranWire, a website that is critical of the Khamenei regime, Tasnim News Agency is controlled by the IRGC. Tasnim has reported an interesting quote by IRGC Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi: “I can assure you that America will soon escape the West Asian region.”
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2019/12/13/2159166/us-to-escape-west-asia-soon-iranian-top-general

Who is Yahya Rahim Safavi? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahya_Rahim_Safavi he joined the IRGC in 1979, was a leader during the Iran-Iraq war, and was the commander of the IRGC from 1997 to 2007, when he became Supreme Leader Khamenei’s special military advisor. His assurance that American will soon “escape” the West Asian region would not have been made without the approval of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

IRGC leaders have lately been boasting about their advanced military equipment, which they insist are for defensive purposes only. Why then did Major General Safavi use the word “escape”?
