Fifty Days of Oil Choked Off: US Enforces Its Blockade

(19 April 2026) It is now 10 pm MST April 19, or, 5 AM GMT, April 20. As of now, the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked for an incredible 50 days.

Even if the Strait is reopened at this point, this whole Iran War and closing the Strait for 50 days in a row, has the distinction of being the greatest interruption in global oil production and transport in the history of the world since World War 2.

So far, this is shaping up to be the Second Signpost. If it is so, then it started March 2.

Yesterday, IRGC boats opened fire on an Indian oil tanker, forcing to turn back into the Persian Gulf.

Today, the Iranian cargo ship Touska tried to run the US blockade. After repeated warnings to stop, a US Navy destroyer blew a hole in the engine room of the ship forcing it to stop. US Marines boarded the ship to take possession.

Conclusion

The last few days have repeated a pattern we have seen during the last 50 days. Some times as the Strait looks to be opened up again, it stays closed.

Peace talks begin again this Monday.

Remember, with 750 to 1,000 million barrels of extra global inventory gone due to the choking off of Mideast oil for 50 days, things may start getting more desperate in the last half of May.

Keep watch.

  1. Since the Strait was closed, the EU had to spend over EU 22 billion (22,000,000,000) extra to get the fossil fuels it was used to.
Now the European Commission is preparing advice for the EU member states.
    They are thinking about:
    1. For one day each week, everybody should work from home and not commute
    2. Close government buildings where possible
    3. Let ships on rivers and seas sail slower to save fuel
    4. Stimulate electrical driving
    5. Advise everyone to increase pressure of car tires to make driving more fuel efficient

Germany’s chancellor Merz announced today that he now musters the national security council to see what can be done to make sure everyone gets the necessary fossil fuels. This structure was only set up a year ago, to deal with national emergencies.

Ukraine is ever intensifying its attacks on the Russian energy infrastructure. More and more refineries, storage facilities and ports are damaged. Since the closing of the Strait, 40% of the Russian oil export capacity has been stymied.
Sweden made known that Russia forges its economic numbers because its economy is in a much worse state than is officially acknowledged, and the country is heading towards financial disaster.

In Asia, they try to go back to coal where possible.

Meanwhile Iran says that the negotiations and ceasefires are not taken serious by the US, and are used only to give the US more time for its ongoing military buildup for a new assault on Iran. So Iran again threatened to obliterate all fuel and water infrastructure around the Gulf.
China would not like this. I wonder, would China do something to put pressure on the US to stop it from attacking Iran again?
China and Russia already help Iran with intelligence from satellites to locate US and Gulf targets. And China condemned the taking of the Iranian freighter by the US.
Could China threaten to blockade Taiwan for instance?
Blockading one another seems to be fashionable at the moment…

Thanks for the link! More than just the economy, its talking about how the Strait closure is affecting oil market and what it means for average people.
