Oman Joining Iran on Future Hormuz Control

(24 June 2026) It is now 10 pm MST June 24, or, 4 AM GMT, June 25. We have been watching world and Mideast events, waiting for escalation of what looks to be the Second Signpost.

The Strait of Hormuz was closed for 112 days. It has now been open for four days, and there is some traffic today according to marinetraffic.com.

Iran and Oman Collaborate on Hormuz

This news report states that Oman is joining Iran on figuring out together how to administer the Strait of Hormuz.

They also refuse to rule out charging fees for passage.

Though territorial waters extend only 12 miles supposedly from coastlines, and the Strait is 30 miles wide at its narrowest, international law is more complicated.

Explained on this website, 12 to 24 miles from a coastline is a “Contiguous Zone,” explained as follows:

“Limited enforcement for customs, immigration, fiscal, and sanitary matters only. But coastal states interpret ‘fiscal matters’ differently. Some include environmental fees or resource extraction taxes in that definition. Knowing which country you’re near matters enormously here.”

Note “resource extraction taxes” might be a legal basis for Iran and Oman to argue for charging passage fees.

Conclusion

At this point, there is nothing in the MOU with Iran, about Iran not charging for transiting the Strait.

Regarding all this about the Strait, as well as the MOU, this is still likely just noise. The regime is stalling for time before striking out both at the Arab oil facilities and its ground invasion, assuming the Second signpost plays out in the weeks and months ahead.

Keep watch.
