(7 July 2026) It is now 10 pm MST July 7, or, 5 AM GMT, July 8. We have been watching events centered on Iran and its regime, waiting for escalation of what looks to be the Second Signpost.
The Strait of Hormuz was closed solidly for 112 days starting on March 2.
It has now been 17 days that the Strait opened, then closed, then opened taking some traffic, but it looks like it just closed again. Let’s see—it’s Tuesday and heading into a new moon, so the Strait must be closed. Just kidding, but that’s what it feels like.
It was just in yesterday’s post I wrote that July might be “normal” as far as normal goes these days. In other words, steady as she goes with global oil inventories near zero but not getting any worse.
However, as a reader and commenter wrote earlier today, “Goodbye normal July.”
A series of news reports put the damper on a normal July.
This first Newsmax story reports that the IRGC attacked three cargo ships going through the Strait, thus raising alarm and causing traffic to cease.
This second news story then said that the US military attacked targets in Iran for a few hours as retaliation both for the attacks and for breaching the MOU.
This third news story is the one that would have the most impact on maintaining any oil reserves at all, and that is the US re-imposed sanctions on Iran preventing it from selling its oil.
Conclusion
Let’s see how long this stoppage lasts. Hopefully the talks are still on and perhaps traffic can be restored at that time.
Any stoppage will bring more shortages and higher prices in many countries.
It would have been nice to have a normal July, but that’s the stage of the game we are in, and that is we can’t count on anything, except God himself.
Keep watch.

Mark: This CIA commentator likens Trump (the U.S. militiary) to Mike Tyson being in retirement. He can still taken care of himself when attacked by bullies in the street, but is no longer able to fight in the ring with young professionals. I liked the analogy. I would disagree with him (and other Trump detractors) on one thing: I don’t think Trump is “losing it”, i.e. crazy or incompetent. I think he is realizing, as you said in a post that I had forgotten until you reminded me, that he walked into a trap and there is no way out. If you’re President of the country which is supposed to have the best military in the world and you can see you’ve been check-mated that has to be more stressful than a doctor saying you have incurrable cancer and you have six months OR LESS to live. Of course Trump is not Hitler, but he faces a similar stress to finding out the Russian Front is getting closer not farther, and the allies have taken Normandy. If Trump were removed by a 25th Amendment coup J.D. Vance would be in the same quicksand immediately. If Vance were removed Speaker Johnson would fair no better. If the democrats steal the next election the new Speaker of the House became president he would surrender to the Iranians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CH6gHqM-GI
Karl,
I believe there is a good chance that Trump would be removed from office, once the Second Signpost begins in earnest.
