(10 September 2026) We have been watching events centered on Iran and its regime, waiting for escalation of what looks to be the Second Signpost.
We have been watching since February 28. The Strait of Hormuz was mostly closed from March 2 to August 23 or so, being about 175 days. The Strait was sporadically open, and is now basically closed, although there are rumors of oil tankers getting through.
Diesel in California
Here in the United States, California stands out as being an “energy island”. California is cut off from the rest of the country with no pipelines going to and from California.
Leftist environmentalists who have power in California have been shutting down California’s fuel refineries, while relying on Japan and Korea for fuel imports, just as Australia does.
We have been watching for the last few weeks the fact that the US refineries are running full capacity without maintenance to keep the diesel flowing. That’s good for the rest of the country, but what about California? California’s fuel supply is more vulnerable to disruptions.
And so according to a report from Canadian Prepper at time 04:09, here it is. Diesel in California is now more than $10 per gallon. The outside signs are pegged at $9.99, so one must go into the gas station to find out what the true price is. (This price is confirmed by this Fox report.)
At that price, supply chains and food deliveries become much more expensive if not intermittent. We will see.
I consider this the first sign of things breaking here in the US with diesel over $10 per gallon on the west coast.
Saudi Pipeline
This news story reports that the Houthis attacked the Yanbu pipeline that the Saudis use to ship oil out of the Red Sea. We don’t know at this point how much of the 5 million barrels of oil per day is cut off right now.
Conclusion
Global oil supplies continue to be low. Oil production and export, already not keeping up with demand, just had a potentially major reduction.
Fuel prices will continue to creep up, but at some point there will be shortages and rationing. California just passed a major line in the sand at the incredible price of diesel at $10 per gallon.
US forces are retreating from the region.
The Second signpost looks all but certain at this point.

In the past few days the US have attacked and disabled five Iranian oil tankers. One even sunk. This is meant to hurt Iran’s economy, and it will. But it may also increase the urgency for the IRGC to do something big.
I could not find any news story reporting that the Houthi’s recently attacked the Yanbu pipeline. All stories about that I found are from July.
The Houthi’s really did conquer the coastal city of Mocha yesterday. (The earliest town to trade coffee, gave Mocha coffee its name.) They have now more of the Read Sea coast under their control, especially where the Red Sea gets narrower towards Strait Bab El Mandeb itself. The farther they edge towards it, the easier can they control and close the Strait. Risk premiums for sailing there have already risen In anticipation, so Brent oil rose above $ 105.
It is sinking in. Also because even Trump himself said that the war may last until after the midterms, more news media are now expecting a rise to $ 120.
Because there is hardly any LNG coming from Qatar any more, the prices of LNG and natural gas In Europe have doubled. The storages for the coming winter are historically low. This will be no problem in an average winter, but will cause shortages if it will be a cold winter.
All of this, together with the shrinking reserves and refineries under more risk of breaking down under overuse, was called a Perfect Storm by a Dutch expert.

On 08/24/91, Russia (in the Budapest Memorandum) signed papers guarantying Ukraine’s independence according to the lines drawn up by Khushchev in the 1950s in exchange for Ukraine transferring all its nuclear weapons back to Russia. In addition, Russia (as an original signer of the U. N. charter) agreed to respect the borders of other countries.

For at least a day only Canadian Prepper talked about the attack on the Yanbu pipeline; nobody else in the news wrote about it. Apparently it was deliberately kept quiet to prevent oil prices rising before the weekend, for he was right after all:

The pipeline is completely shut down. Only one detail was incorrect: the drones that hit the pipeline facilities did not come from Yemen, but from an Iranian proxy in Iraq. So it was Iran that knocked out the one remaining lifeline of Saudi oil production.
Meanwhile the Houthi’s advanced further south from Mocha. This morning they occupied the city Dhubab and soon after reached Strait Bab El Mandeb itself, their target. They even occupied the island Perim in the Strait.
If they put rocket launchers etc. there, they control the Strait completely. Until now they said they only targeted ships from and to Saudi ports. But if they so wish they now can close their Strait as well as Iran has closed its own Strait.
