Prior to the Second Signpost which is the invasion of the Middle East by Iran, we would expect to see Iran’s power and regional influence continue to increase. We saw in this post Iran’s increasing power, and in this post its increasing influence in the region, particularly in Iraq.
This is a trend that should continue for months (or possibly years) prior to the Second Signpost. Adding another data point to this trend, this news story was just released. According to a poll taken of Iraqis, Iran – and not the U.S. – is seen to be Iraq’s best ally when it comes to fighting the Islamic State (IS).
In a post from six months ago, Is ISIS the Trigger for the Second Signpost? I wrote,
“I could very well be wrong, but here is my opinion nonetheless. Indications show that Iran is creating its nuclear weaponry right now. It may already have them, but for whatever reason they are not quite ready to invade. If ISIS were to conquer Baghdad, that would be it for the new democratic government in Iraq, and Iran’s network of supply to the west would go completely down. In order to buy time until it is ready, I believe Iran will send fighters to fight alongside Iraqi soldiers to defend Baghdad. They won’t be Iranian soldiers in uniform most likely – that would be rather shocking for many western nations – but they will be militants aligned with Iran. Sometime during this struggle for Baghdad, Iran may very well begin the Second Signpost and completely obliterate ISIS.” (I added the emphasis.)
So the preparations continue. Iran is indeed biding its time until it is ready for its invasion. For six months now it has been sending soldiers and weapons to Iraq to assist Iraqi Shias against IS. But notice that the front is still only outside Baghdad. Iran is helping to defend Baghdad, but Iran is not vanquishing IS just yet.
And now in Iraq, Iran’s presence is ubiquitous and strongly felt. And for years where the IRGC has been in the shadows in Iraq, controlling that country behind the scenes, that presence is now out in the open.
If the Signpost interpretation of Daniel 7 and 8 is correct, then indeed Iran will be allowed to do everything it wants to do as it says in Daniel 8:4b regarding the Persian ram: “No animal could stand against him, and none could rescue from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.” Iran seen as a savior and as an ally in Iraq will greatly help Iran in its invasion plans as it charges out, along the lines of Daniel 8:4.
