When Jesus told us about end-time events in Matthew 24 and Luke 21, He told us the complete set of events to occur. Notice, though, He gave us only one reference to time.
One Generation
Jesus tells us of the end-time events in Matthew 24:5–31. Following this, in Matthew 24:34, Jesus said (NIV 1984), “I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.”
As if to accent that all end-time events of verses 5–31 will occur over one lifetime, the chiastic and mirrored structure of Matthew 23–25 shows us that the “generation” of Matthew 24:34 is echoed by the “generation” of Matthew 23:36. All the events of the end times—from the First Signpost to the physical Return of Christ—are given between those two “generations” as if they are bookends to one lifetime (ref. Chronicles of the End Times, Ch. 26–27).
The Signpost interpretation of Biblical end-time prophecy, if true, opens our eyes to what is really happening in the Middle East and gives us hints to events in the rest of the world as well. However, the Signpost interpretation does not change any clock settings. Just as the Church Age stretched out over two millennia, the end-times are to stretch out over one lifetime.
The Timetable So Far
Let’s review what we’ve all seen so far. I’ll measure it up against my own lifetime.
In 1979, when I had just graduated from high school, the world witnessed both the first horseman on the white horse (Rev. 6) come to power to lead the lion with wings (Dan. 7), and the Persian Ram (Dan. 8) began standing next to Susa with only one tall horn, with a stubby, barely-there second horn next to the first horn.
In 1980, the white horseman began his first conquest. The lion chased down its first prey. This event triggered the start of the growth of the second horn of the Ram.
In 1990, when I was entering my 30’s, the white horseman began his second conquest. The lion chased down its second prey.
Riding in “as” a conqueror, and not really conquering anything, Saddam was stopped both times. He was stopped first by the Persian Ram, and in the second time by the force that was going to come back 13 years later to make the lion stand and change its mind.
In 2003, as a middle-aged man, I witnessed Saddam Hussein being removed and a democracy installed as the new government of Iraq. Wonderfully, just weeks before it happened, I had arrived at the conclusion (having just discovered the Signposts) that the lion with wings being made to stand as a man, with its mind changed, was to be likely fulfilled by Iraq having its government changed from something brutal to something more civilized. I put this idea on the shelf until two weeks later George W. Bush announced that’s just what the US military was going to do.
Later, the main force of US troops (i.e., the force that made the lion stand) pulled out of Iraq in late 2011.
For many years, like a measuring gauge, we unknowingly watched from 1979 to maybe around 2019 (40 years’ time!) the IRGC growing in power so the second horn had grown longer than the first horn (i.e., the supreme leader). According to Daniel 8, the Persian Ram was not to run out and do its horrendous work until the second horn was longer than the first horn.
With the power of the IRGC now mature, this means we are very close to the start of the Second Signpost.
From 1980 to 2022 (next year) we will have seen six 7-year Jewish cycles go by. The last year of each of these 7-year cycles is known as the Shemittah (or, Shmita) year.
Six cycles saw the First Signpost. (In fact, Saddam’s first war began at the start of a 7-year cycle.) Could the seventh Shemittah cycle give us the Second and Third Signposts? We will see. Those two Signposts comprise a great Sunni-Shia War, and it and its aftermath could easily fit into a seven-year period.
If this is the case, I would see the Fourth Signpost begin in my late 60’s during the eighth cycle, and the Return of Christ one seven-year cycle after that when I am around 80.
Conclusion
So there it is: one lifetime, one generation. If the Signpost interpretation is true, and is a true gauge of end-time events, the end-times started when I came of age and will culminate with Christ’s Return when I am an old man, assuming the Lord hasn’t already taken me home.
I have seen many times with new readers and adherents to the Signposts that it is amazing to them how Mideast events open up in front of their eyes.
However, many also expect events to move right along at a quick clip. Unfortunately, seeing the meaning of events open up doesn’t also mean things will start happening one after the other over days, weeks or months.
I can remember learning of the Signposts myself in 2003 and thinking all our troops in Iraq (to set up the democracy) were in danger of the Iranian invasion. No one to rescue! Well, that was 18 years ago.
In the last two years we have now witnessed the IRGC’s capability to take out oil facilities, navy ships, and hard military assets. I believe this was the IRGC flexing its muscle and testing its abilities. I started the “grace period” because the killing of Soleimani was a turning point, and the supreme leader seemed to be speaking from a position of confidence (we are now in Day 465 on April 17, 2021).
Why the long First Signpost over some 32 years or so? I believe it was God giving the world plenty of time to see that the end times have begun; to allow us to make sense of the Second Signpost.
I will continue to keep this website up and journal about events for as long as God will have me do it, or until the Signposts are proven false, if that were to happen.
There are now thousands of you watching with me, for which I am thankful.
However, live your life and occupy until He comes, while keeping an eye out over your shoulder, staying awake, and watching as the Signposts advance. One never knows when the next significant event will occur whether today or next month.
Watching the end times is a marathon, not a sprint.
Categories: The Four Signposts
Mark,
It is just speculative, but I really think for several reasons that the first horseman was released in 1968 as it was a pivotal year for so many things around the global including Israel’s capture of part of Jerusalem. But also notice in the link below how the Bathist party came to power that year. The dominion of the Gentiles begins to significantly divert from that year as Israel comes forward. Visions of angels were also reported to be seen in the 68 war. That pivot seems essential for the seal to be open.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ba%27athist_Iraq
Four signposts were set for an Islamic marathon in which entire nations are running toward the goal of a Mahdi/Antichrist. A Christian marathon is being run by individuals more than by nations. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who, for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV). With few exceptions, Christian nations are being controlled by a globalist deep state that hates Christianity. Control was achieved via trickery, but the curtains they are hiding behind are being pulled back in toto, and their escape balloons are being deflated by Christian patriots. One of the signposts for any marathon run by Christians reads, “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” Christians who believe that trickery is how governments should operate, that it is okay to use fear of manufactured pandemics and imagined climate changes as tools for controlling people, should wake up to what they are doing, and not doing.
Gary,
The Baathist Party was certainly necessary for a young Baathist member named Saddam Hussein to begin his rise to power.
Yes, definitely…..I will, and I am not sure, but I do wonder possibly that the second seal was opened.in 2014. Another pivotal year.

Gary,
Where the first horseman was fulfilled by Saddam Hussein, and “rode out as a conqueror” as the leader of the lion (with wings) nation, we could put a year on it, whether 1979, 1980, or possible 1968.
However, the second horseman is a figure of war who will cause men to brutally slay one another. The year of his coming out is indefinite, for the time at which the IRGC could fulfill that prophecy could be any year in the last few years, or not until the Second Signpost actually happens.
The Second Signpost will not occur until all the boxes are checked – Dan 7 and the bear wandering, Dan 8 with the three directions, and the Ram gets to do all it wants which is to spread the 1979 Revolution, and Rev 6 and men slaying each other all over the Mideast. It hasn’t happened yet. You’ll know when it does.
Mark, I hear what you are saying. But something I had been thinking about since your post is “Does the second seal and second signpost of Iran in Daniel exactly have to perfectly happen in sync at the same time. My thought is that the breaking of the seal simply allows for next course of actions to take place. I was watching something earlier today and when speaking they mentioned the “red” blood moons that occurred in 2014 was significant. Also I can’t tell you how many stories of covid quarantine caused unrest in the homes where domestic violence soared and also then there were the riots actually affected a lot of communities where even diverse neighborhoods and churches that were once getting along are not and even becoming more racially divided. From observing a lot of peace appears taken. I am just thinking that it is possible that the 2nd seal has been opened but has not fully manifested. Pray through this as I will also.
Gary,
That’s right. As I believe I wrote before, where the first horseman is a leader and therefore a specific person, the second horseman is a general bringer of war. Do a search on this site for “sword” and see what you get. Oddly, Shia Islam’s holy sword is dual pointed like the ram’s horns.
The sequence of events we call the four signposts is focused on the Islamic world. To Christendom, the first signpost was a minor disturbance. Yet it included the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, referred to by Iranians as the Sacred Defence, which forced Iran to organize its military for its role in the second signpost, which will remove peace from the entire world (Revelation 6:3-4)! After the Sacred Defence, Iran’s leaders switched from buying military equipment from non-Islamic countries to custom designing and manufacturing their own. This has resulted in Iran having a panoply of weaponry superior to any other country in the Middle East. Following Iran’s lead, Turkey has been shifting to home-made military equipment. Turkey designs and builds its own drones, which were used in Libyan and Armenia–Azerbaijan conflicts. In both cases, the use of Turkey’s drones swung outcomes to what Turkey wanted.
Does deep-state-corrupted Christendom have its own sequence to go through? Is that sequence also in the Bible, but hidden enough to require “seek and ye shall find” to uncover? At the recent well-attended Health & Freedom Conference at Tulsa, Oklahoma, Amanda Grace spoke this well-received message:
And the spirit of the Lord says this day, Fear not, My children, fear not. Have I not said, and will I not do, says the Lord? For I am the Alpha and Omega, I am the beginning and the ending, I am the first and last, and I am He that liveth and died, and behold, My children, I am alive forevermore, and I the Lord rule and reign on the throne, not the enemy, and the earth is my footstool, and the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, says the spirit of the Lord.
And the spirit of the Lord says, Rise up My children, rise up, rise up in your faith. Take the word and the sword of the spirit. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles and schemings of the devil, for the wickedness attempt to advance in this country, I, the Lord, see ahead. I, the Lord, see the end of the battle, because the battle is already won.
Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord, and I will raise up My children in this hour, and I will pour out a double portion of My spirit on the remnant of this country, and My children shall speak with a greater boldness in this hour as you see things begin to turn, as My children cry out to Me, says the spirit of the Lord this day. As My children speak My word and faith, as they stand rooted in their faith, knowing I can do exceedingly abundantly above anyone could ask or think, because I am Ruach Elohim, the spirit of the living God, I am the creator of all things. I speak it, and it is, says the Lord.
I am, and the great I am says this day, I am raising up soldiers and generals and those in business and those in the prophetic and those in the military and those in health, to come together, says the Lord, into agreement for such a time as this, for this will be unlike any other time, says the Lord, for the wicked thinks, they think they have a hold, and I, the Lord, say this day, I shall break that hold, and I shall shake the wicked, and I shall shake the ground that they’re on, and I shall shake their calves [pun on lower legs and golden calves], and I shall shake their buildings, and I shall shake whatever can be shaken in this country, because they are going to let this covenant nation go, says the spirit of the Lord this day. This is not the enemy’s to take, and this is not the wicked’s to rule.
This was a nation I created, says the Lord, to be a brother to Israel, and to send forth the gospel into all the earth. And the spirit of the Lord says this day, as you My children press into Me, I shall press into you, as you speak with a faith that you KNOW that I am that I am, that you KNOW what I the Lord can do, that nothing is too difficult for Me. You are going to see first small shakings and cracks and pushes. You’re going to see it begin as a tremor, and you’re going to see that tremor turn into a shaking that is going to move mountains in this country, says the spirit of the Lord this day.
For I am not done with the nation of the eagle, I am not done with the United States of America, I am not done with its purpose, I am not done with My people, and My people in this hour need to believe this, and they need to walk and step into their call, because as I gather My people, as I gather My remnant, as I gather the faithful together, you are going to see them lead this battle with those at the forefront in this nation, you are going to see those I call back says the Lord, you are going to see those that are not done with their commission that I say (the Lord) shall I call back to finish their task.
And I the Lord say this day to My children, Not only do I love you with an everlasting love, but I am ever-present in an ever-present help in times of trouble, and you shall see that now more than ever in this nation, and this today, what My children are doing, gathering and coming into agreement, is going to help shake the chains of bondage in this country, says the spirit of the Lord, and they will break, says the spirit of God this day, they will fall, and they will crumble, and I the Lord God shall have My way. Know it, believe it, walk in it, says the Lord in the precious name of Yeshua, Jesus Christ. Amen and amen.

There was a massive peaceful protest in London on April 24 against vaccination passports and government lockdowns. Of the tens of thousands of persons shown in this video, which includes aerial views, only the police are wearing masks.
How is it possible that a such a huge demonstration should be barely mentioned by the MSM? Because it is controlled by a globalist deep state that does not want people to be free. They don’t want people to see what happened in London on April 24. Their emphasis was on 100 protesters arrested, rather than on examining the reasons for the protest. Oracle films is dedicated to showcasing what the MSM is most anxious not to cover.
The other thing from what I understood with policies under Trump was that certain Christians were dissuading him from.a “full” scale attack with Iran because of the number of Iranian Christians in Iran. The current administration I don’t think will care.
Mark, I think you are beginning “this generation that sees all these
things” about 20 years off. Jesus mentions two things that “this
generation” will see: the fig tree blossom, and the abomination of
desolation.
Many Bible commentators agree that the fig tree represents national
Israel — the Jewish people in the promised land. Jesus cursed the fig
tree, and some of those same commentators use that as a “proof” that God
is finished with Israel as a nation, and as a land for the nation. But
then Jesus answers His apostles’ question about the end-times by saying
that the fig tree will blossom. This began in 1948: the generation
that spans a life-time of 70-80 years (Ps 90) will also see the
antichrist and the AoD, and the great and terrible Day of YHVH, and the
return of the Lord Jesus Christ in great power and glory. That means
that the baby boomers will see it. I was born in 1950, and whether I
will be dead in Christ, or alive in Christ at His coming, God can move
quickly in His strategy to spurt to a glorious marathon victory!
The signposts fit into this scheme, but do not mark its beginning. I am
glad that you will continue to write about the things to come as the
Holy Spirit prompts you.
Hi Howard,
You bring up some popular views like the fig tree being Israel, and the end times beginning when Israel became a nation in 1948 (even Hal Lindsey counted down 40 years from 1948 writing about the second coming arriving in 1988).
I’m thinking at some point I may need to write a whole post on this topic.
These ideas that have been around, and you mentioned, are part of many ideas that are part of the (if you’ll please excuse the expression) brainwashing. We have all been brainwashed with popular theology. The most obvious is that the AC will be Roman. The biggest may be the timing of the Rapture. But the falsehoods go way deeper, and many more, than that. As I study the Scriptures on end times I find even now there are ideas here and there that I question, thinking, “Why do I believe this verse says such and such?” The answer I find is that it was taught to me decades ago. One example is the fourth horse of Revelation 6. The Bible says “green” and yet they insist on “pale.” I suppose Jesus made the people sit down on the pale grass (Mark 6:39)? Another is “earthquake” from seismos.
So it is here. Let’s start with Israel. Yes, Israel must be a nation, and build its Third Temple – Scripture either says it directly or alludes to it. We see the start of Israel in Ezekiel 37 (the dry bones) and the Zionist movement, and the Great Trib involving Israel in Matthew 24:15 (abomination), and the second coming involving Jerusalem in Zech 14:2-4 (Christ rescuing Jerusalem). But all the events in recent times – 1890’s, 1917, 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 are developments along the way going from the Zionist movement starting in the 1890’s (Ez. 37) and moving to the second coming. Yes, Israel is in the center of things in the end times, but its not all there is. Many teachers say its all about Israel but the Signpost interpretation shows its not – there are the nations (the seven) for example and what they do, and how God uses them as a clock. Daniel 7 is a history of the end times and Matthew 24 is Jesus’ commentary about it (see Chronicles, Section 2). One could count from 1948, but why? Why not 1895 or 1917 or 1967? God’s word gives us the start, and the clue is in Daniel’s Aramaic writings, not his Hebrew writings.
Now regarding the fig tree, why do most teachers say it means Israel? I believe its because that’s all teachers see – Israel, Israel, Israel. They don’t see things like the Second Signpost and so they assign Jesus’ wars to general wars. If you read Matthew 24 with no pretense, Jesus doesn’t say the fig tree is Israel – He says its all the end time events, starting with deceit, and then wars, and then famine, and then disasters, and then the Tribulation. These are the things that come in one lifetime. All these things, when nearing, are likened to the fig tree budding when summer is near.
Israel is in the background. In fact, the only mention of Israel in all of Matthew 24 is in verses 15-19. But all of Matthew 24 is popularly assigned to Israel because there is nothing else to assign to, if one doesn’t know the Signposts.
So, I’m sticking with the leader appearing on the white horse with a bow, leading the country that is the first beast, starting in 1979 or 1980 depending on how one counts. Were at 41 years now. We still have the three remaining Signposts, and the Tribulation, so we may have a decade or two or three still to go.
The bottom line is, as I mention to everyone, examine why you believe a teaching. If its only because someone told you and the words of Scripture don’t support it, question it. Ask God for the truth of the matter.
God bless you Howard.
Thanks for your clear reply, Mark.
The reason for starting with 1948, and not with the other years that you mention, is that the restoration of the Jewish people in the promised land is a visible “miraculous sign to the nations” that YHVH God is still here, and He is going to fulfill His plan of redemption culminating in the glorious return of the Lord, with much travail before then. (Is 11:12) Luke also writes of “all the trees” (Lk 21:29-33), which are the Gentile nations round about Israel, corresponding to the kingdoms written about in Daniel, and the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. They have all been rearing their heads, trying to restore their own former glory, within this generation that has seen the fig tree blossom.
These Gentile nations, and the Jewish one, are picking up where our fathers left off, doing the same things now that they were doing way back then. We are the children of our fathers! Your signpost interpretation fits within this period.
It seems to me, though, that you are annoyed that Israel is key to this lead-up to the consummation of the ages. (I have not read Hal Lindsay’s book, but, in any case, we have more light now than he did then.) The Signposts are a necessary part towards the end, but they are and will occur only after that Israel as a nation was back in the picture. All of these nations and ‘kingdoms’ began to be restored from around the time of the beginning of the Zionist movement at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. WW1 further delineated these nations with their borders. The Scriptures are written for us living at the end of the age, and we see how accurate and relevant they are. The Word of God abides, and all will be fulfilled!
I am looking for, and expecting, the second signpost: that Iran will begin to butt its way to get what it wants, and no one can stop it. I know that you are, too, since it will validate your interpretation. I hope you are right, but if not, God will still fulfill His word as the Holy Spirit inspired all of the writers to record for us. In the meantime, the gospel is the message that we have been given to proclaim until the end of the age to every people group. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Thanks for your clear reply, Mark.

(I have not read Hal Lindsay’s book, but, in any case, we have more light now than he did then.) It’s not all about Israel, but it is about Israel, God’s covenant nation. Simply speaking agriculturally is not a “sign” of the end-times. Fig trees blossom every year before the summer. But in understanding how this speaks of Israel’s return in the last days, it is a time-marker that the final “life-time” generation has begun during which all these things must be.
It’s especially about Jesus Christ and the coming Kingdom of God! The Signposts are a necessary part towards the end, but they are occurring only after Israel as a nation was back in the picture. All of these nations and ‘kingdoms’ began to be restored from around the time of the beginning of the Zionist movement at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. God knows how to run His marathon, and He will finish in a strong sprint, overtaking all those who thought they had left Him behind! In the meantime, the gospel is the message that we have been given to proclaim until the end of the age to every people group. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Howard,
Please accept my apology for not having approved your comment here earlier. It slipped down the list of comments for moderation.
Regarding your comment here and our earlier conversation, no, I’m not annoyed that Israel is center in the end times, for God made the Jewish people center for His plan of redemption – for both Christ’s first and second appearance. And personally, I’m a big supporter of Israel as we all should be.
What I am attempting to do is wake people up that Scripture is much more specific and tells us many thing about the seven nations in the Middle East that were, and are, hostile to Israel. These events are more specific in the Bible than any Scripture prophesying about Israel except for the beginning and end of the 42-month Jacob’s trouble itself. Where the Bible says Israel will come again onto the mountains, and there will be a temple, and there will be an invasion during the last 42 months, the Bible tells us what Iraq will do, Iran will do, Turkey and Egypt and Syria will do, and how the AC will arise and expand his realm both in the Mideast and in the world, and that he invades Israel and what armies are with him. There is much more to watch than just Israel.
As an example of all this, if you ask a person about the traditional end time prophecies, he or she would talk about how Israel is fulfilling prophecy. I would ask, which ones? The only answer I ever get is that they are a nation. And though honest and right, it misses out on everything else going on. If Jesus said, “Watch” and Scripture gives us so much more than Israel to watch, we should make use of God’s grace that shows us everything that is happening.
The “Israel tunnel vision” of popular theology today needs to be widened to what is happening outside of Israel too so we, God’s people whether Jewish or Gentile (Dan 7 Gentile, Dan 8 Jewish, for example) can be blessed by everything God is trying to show us through His Word.
Thanks, Mark. You are right, and the Lord has given you much for us to be watching for between the beginning and end. They all combine together to see the forest and the trees.
Most of the pastors and teachers and prophetic voices that I know here in Israel are not yet paying attention to these geo-political Gentile kingdoms and beasts surrounding us, but are mostly focused on sins and the need for revival. God is working in all of these realms to bring about His purposes on His schedule.
Blessings.
